Micro-Movie Reviews: Edition 23

It's time for the latest installment. I've decided I will include some of the major films we've recently watched again, since it gives me an opportunity to bring up, and perhaps even add new comments about, some of my favorites. It's also a chance to comment on movies I originally saw in theaters, but now own on DVD.

10,000 BC

48

Almost worth a viewing for its atmosphere and visuals. The story was mostly predictable, but there were a couple of surprises that made it mildly interesting. I won’t recommend it, though.

Eagle Eye

63

Another “Big Brother” “I, Robot” and not as good as those, but certainly worth one watching. More in line with the latter than the former in atmosphere. I liked LaBeouf and Monaghan together, but Rosario Dawson was the best character, and probably actor, in the thing. But then again, I don’t care for Billy Bob Thornton.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

82

Reviewed back in Edition 15. Now on DVD.

The Incredible Hulk

82

Reviewed back in Edition 18. Now on DVD.

I, Robot

80

While not true to the original Asimov story, the concepts translated well, the characterization of Sonny was believable, and Will Smith was just the right choice for the role of a robot-wary detective.

Eragon

71

Reviewed way back in Edition 9. Watched again so the nephews could see it.

V for Vendetta

93

Reviewed in Edition 5. But let me add to that.

This film gets better each time I see it. So many lessons about the price of freedom, and the power of fear.

It fits so well with my favorite Benjamin Franklin quote:

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

I have gladly made watching this film a yearly event. “Remember, remember, the fifth of November…”

I am not including a few movies that were seen by others in the house recently (some Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, for example.)
