There are two logistical issues which are faced regularly by you as a lover of the game Dominion:
- The cards wear out! You love the game so much, you play it often. Every game involves shuffling the cards over and over (and over!) so the cards start looking worn. This is especially true for the base cards used in every game.
- Too many boxes! I suppose a few people only own the base Dominion game, which comes in one box. That box is very well designed - for that single set of cards. However, you love the game so much, you have several expansions, each of which comes in a separate box. When you gather to play the game, you want to have all your options open, so you need to bring all your Dominion cards. This means bringing several boxes.
So, what is the solution? Clearly, as gamers, we go to this:
Sleeves and Binders!
I currently own the base Dominion and two expansions, Dark Ages and Seaside. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the two methods of transporting all of these cards.
OK, so maybe that doesn't quite have the depth perspective you need. This next photo is not as pretty, but it shows the difference in volume.
That purple binder is about half as high as the three boxes put together. It's a 3-inch binder, which zips completely closed, protecting the precious cargo, and conveniently fitted with a strap which allows me to carry it over my shoulder while I carry other games or snacks in my hands.
Inside the binder are standard 9-pocket collector card pages. Inside those pockets, you have stacks of sleeved cards. As you know, there are ten of each "normal" card, and the sleeved stack of these can all fit in one pocket. In fact, the base game's three types of Victory cards also fit, twelve each plus the blue-backed "sample card", in one pocket per type. For cards, such as the money, Curse cards, and so on, which have more, you can divide them up into several stacks, as in the photo above.
We also have the starting hands (three Estates and seven Copper) already created. Four starting hands are each given a pocket, as well.
And, because we bought binders with a zipper pouch and a set of file folders on the left cover, we can even store all of the rule pamphlets and tokens in the binder with ease. We've also added thick, durable dividers between sets, and on top of the base set. This makes it easier to find the cards you want, and it adds another layer of protection to the cards.
The sleeves we used fit perfectly on the cards, and into the pockets. For Dominion, you want
Euro Card Sleeves - 59 x 92 mm
We bought them from Mayday Games in packs of 100. The price was good (better than Amazon's), and the sleeves were immediately available for shipping (Amazon's were not.)My binder is a Case•it D-146 Purple 3" Zipper Binder with Tab File, which I bought at Staples.
So, there you have it. If you love Dominion, and would like to avoid those two issues with the game, Eric and I humbly offer our solution. It's working for us. We hope it helps you enjoy the game even more!
