Movie Micro-Reviews: Edition 101

We've been on a movie break for a while.  Today's list is mostly reviewing movies we re-viewed.  One "new" movie which is from 2006, but we had never seen: Blood Diamond.

Ocean's Eleven

Sorry, Sherry, but I like caper movies.  This was not as good as "The Sting" but certainly had the style.  And wow, lots of actors:  Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Roberts, Garcia, Reiner, Gould, Cheadle.
Ocean’s Twelve

Caper films are best when you like the thieves (we did,) they pull off complex heists (they did,) and there are surprising payoffs (there were!)
Book of Eli (The)

This is what a post-apocalyptic sci-fi story should be like!  OK, there are a couple of kinds of endings such a story can have, and they chose one which was very satisfying.  Denzel Washington was exceptional. Gary Oldman was frightening. Don’t let someone spoil this movie for you.  See it for yourself – if you can handle the violence.

P.S. Mila Kunis is not “Jackie” – and by her last scene could be a young Angelina Jolie.

Three Hero Journeys mix in this story about the trade in conflict diamonds in Sierra Leone. It’s tough to watch the brutality, but the performances are excellent.
Thor: The Dark World (Thor 2)

Better the second time around. I was harsh before.  Still, pretty much every other Avenger movie is better.
****
Hard to recommend. I liked it enough, given it’s Thor, and Tom Hiddleston is so good as Loki.  It was often amusing, but more often confusing.  There was opportunity for emotional connections, but it didn’t happen.  Ah well, the effects were good, and Hemsworth makes a good Thor.
