Review - Frozen Heat

Title: Frozen Heat
Author: Richard Castle (but really?)

The fourth book in the Nikki Heat series written by fictional ruggedly handsome author Richard Castle gets started with an investigation into a woman -- a Jane Doe --  who has been killed and stored in a refrigerator.  The characters, who very closely map to the main characters in the Castle TV series, would make this an interesting story all by themselves.  But Castle doesn't stop there.

Just like the (fictional) detective who serves as her model (Kate Beckett), Nikki Heat has a murdered mother in her past.  Before long, the detective and her boyfriend, writer Jameson Rook, have added Heat's mother's death to the mix.  Meanwhile, Nikki must face the fact that one of her key personality traits, which serves her well as a detective, keeps her from letting  close relationships develop, and may have its origin in her mother's past.

Filled with exciting action, interesting mysteries and appealing characters, this is another fun story.  If you can't be watching Castle on TV, but you wish you were, you'll find a Nikki Heat novel is a close second.
