While we were in Italy, we had the extreme good fortune of being shown around the town of Verona by two Italian natives, one of whom grew up in Verona.
Verona is well known for being the town which served as the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, so naturally we saw Juliet's balcony. It was cool, but, hey, it was not even close to the best view in town. Today, some of the best views in Verona.
First: the gate into the heart of Verona.
Second: just inside that gate, is a large square of beautiful buildings and restaurants. Later in the day, we would eat at one of them.
Third: Oh yeah, just to make it even cooler, across the street from those buildings is the Arena - a Roman-era structure which is not only still standing, but is still used.
Fourth: What a cool clock tower! Cooler yet - you can climb it for great views.
Fifth: So we did. I mean, look at this view.
Sixth: And this one. Dizzy? Our Verona native, Francesca, declined coming up for these views, since she has a problem with heights. Too bad, but probably the right decision, for her.
Seventh: And let's take a look at that Arena - from above.
Eighth: Inside the Arena.
Ninth: My favorite shot from inside the Arena. It will certainly become a "Favorite Foto Friday" photo someday.
Tenth: There is a great bridge with some beautiful views.
Eleventh: And finally, our hosts -- Pascal & Francesca -- and Sherry, on the bridge.
