Movie Micro-Reviews: Edition 64 - Vacation Part 2

The second half of the micro-reviews from the long vacation. A very good set of entertainment this time.

Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

89

Wonderful. Beautiful, with a good story. The young actors were excellent. Georgie Henley (Lucy) has really grown. Skandar Keynes (Edmund) is a wonderful actor. And the 3D was immersive, not distracting.

Inception

93

Complex, mystifying, excellent. I expect I will see it several more times. Will I change my mind about the end? Depends on how much I think Nolan cares about Point of View…

Mamma Mia!

74

This was fun! It took a few moments to get going, but once it started, it kept delivering: smiles, laughs and songs. Stay through the first set of end credits!

I Am Legend

78

Saw the alternate version. A completely different feel when the movie ends. Like both ways. Alternate makes some things fit more. Theatrical feels more like the story would have been.

Star Trek

90

Initially reviewed in Edition 32.

A thrill-ride. By the time we were 30 minutes in, I was already convinced I want to see more of this cast in these characters. Yes, it’s a re-visioning of the characters. But it fits. It’s great fun!

(Sarah needed to see this.)

Joy Luck Club (The)

70

Four older women who came from China, each with a fully American daughter. Their stories, each hard in its own way. Very good. Touching.

How to Train Your Dragon

91

Every bit as good as people said it was. I can forgive the Vikings with Scottish accents, because the rest of it was basically flawless. I wish I had seen it in 3-D. I will own this movie.
