Spectromancer

Back when Mike was working on Bella Sara, some of the folks at his company were working on a game called Spectromancer. (I've mentioned it once or twice before.) For almost two years, I've had a beta version of that game, and I've really enjoyed it. Now it finally has its full version available.

Spectromancer is a two-player strategy game that only takes a few minutes to play. It is a "card" game in the sense that each player has a fixed set of spells which are randomized and "dealt" to the player at the beginning of each game.

The AI for the second player (which is the only mode I've used) is quite good. It ramps up from "Novice" to "Archmage" and truly does play a smarter game at each advancing level.

Each player has spells from the four elements (Fire, Water, Air & Earth) but then also has access to spells from a fifth specialty during the game. The beta version only gave the human a limited number of magic types to use, but the full version, which only costs $19.99, opens up the entire set of specialties.

Considering the amount of fun I've already had with the beta version, this is $19.99 I know I will be glad I spent. Oh, and the demo version is still available for free download if you want to try it out to see how it feels. I recommend it to all my strategy game buddies. It costs nothing to try, and I think there's a good chance you will like it.
