To Each Her Own

Mother's Day, 2009

Think about the mothers you know. On a Mother's Day, how many of them would want to spend the day doing hard work in the yard, then preparing supper for eight?

Not many.

And yet, that's exactly what the mother of my children wanted to do on this Mother's Day.

For her "gift" this year, Sherry asked for her kids to come over and help do a bunch of outdoor chores, including clearing some trash out of our property that has been there for, probably, 50 years. It was dirty work, and hard work, but the kids who live in town came over and did exactly that. As a thank you, Sherry had potato salad and mousse, brats and hot dogs, chips and drinks. We finished the night around a bonfire, eating s'mores and just enjoying the company of family (and friend.)

It may not have been "Breakfast in Bed and Feet Up All Day" like most Mother's Days would be, but it was just what she wanted.

And, as it happens, the bluebells are always blooming in the woods at this time of year. So before the sun set completely, we took a walk down by the river to see the fleeting blue fields.

It was a great treat on a beautiful day.

Happy Mother's Day to one and all.

[And "Thanks for the help, Kids." She loved it.]
