Well, we did it. We finished Rayman: Legends - a Wii U game Sherry bought me for Christmas.
When we first started playing it, we wondered if we would really be able to complete it. And we did!
So, what's Rayman: Legends? It's a side-scrolling game divided into "worlds" and "levels." The goal is to rescue "Teensies" from Nightmares which have imprisoned them. Each level allows you the opportunity to save either ten or three Teensies. Some of the levels gave me as a player time to think things through, but many of them were timed in one way or another. These timed levels were the reason I did not know if I would save all 700 Teensies. (700!)
A few weeks ago, I "beat" the game. I completed the five worlds which form the basis of the game, and got to see the credits. But at that point we still had more than 200 Teensies left to save. We were having such fun, we had to keep going.
Now, I am told this game can be a multi-player game. We did not play it that way. I was the only player in the game. Sherry watched, gave advice, and helped me spot places to look for Teensies. And we had fun!
Now, I will say that the final couple of Teensies almost defeated me. I spent literally hours on "Infiltration Station (Invaded)" -- and I don't use "literally" unless I mean it. And, since that level is timed to take less than a minute, and since I played it for hours, and since most of the times I tried the level I died before 30 seconds were up, I literally played it hundreds of times. Several hundreds.
But the game lets you do that. There is no limit to the number of "lives" you have as Rayman (or one of the many other Heroes.) So I died a lot. But eventually, I got the moves exactly right, and we saved them all!
I'll play this game some more before we're done with this first play-through. There are other Heroes to try, and there is an on-line competition with other players around the world. But then I'll put it away, and I bet we'll come back to it again in a year. It's definitely fun enough for that.
And someday, I'll figure out how the multi-player mode works.
