We saw many excellent things on our trip to Australia and New Zealand. Really. Many!
The single thing we were looking forward to most was our tour of the Hobbiton movie set, used in the Lord of the Rings movies and the Hobbit movies. It is on a sheep farm near Matamata in New Zealand. The weather on the day we toured was mostly cloudy, but we also had some breaks of sunshine. With our love of the movies, and the fantastic weather, it was almost impossible for me to stop taking photos. Every time I put my eye to the camera, I didn't have to move far to find a great shot. After all, it was designed to look good! So, as long as I held the camera still, almost every one was a keeper.
I will probably share more of these Hobbiton photos over time, but the one I have chosen today is the view of The Party Tree and the lower part of Hobbiton, including the Green Dragon, from Bag End, which sits at the top of The Hill.
Sure, if it had been summer the deciduous trees would have added a bit more green, but seriously, doesn't this view look spectacular?
For those of you who remember the final film, the yellow door on the right is where Samwise and Rosie lived
And, if any of you want to see the photo in a larger size, just click on it -- you should be taken to Flickr, where I store most of the photos I use here.
