By Proclamation: Deck Building Week

It is hereby proclaimed that the week of April 28 through May 4, 2013, is Deck Building Week.

Now, if you were some other kind of person, you might be getting out the carpentry tools and preparing for a trip to a lumber yard.

Not I!  I have set up tables, pulled out boxes of Magic: the Gathering cards, and purchased some brand new apparel to get me in the mood for designing and building new MtG decks to play.

Very soon, the third and final set in the "Return to Ravnica" block will be released, and I have not yet built a single deck with the second set.  This must be remedied!

Paul and Mike will be visiting in June, and I simply must have some new (and some radically revised) decks to use when they are here.

I have been so busy lately that I have not had the time to devote to one of my favorite games.  I truly enjoy the discovery of learning new cards, trying to figure out how they might be put to use in new decks, or how they might improve existing decks.

Truth be told, a while back, I saw an advertisement for the new MtG apparel and decided -- what the heck! -- I have personal money.  I love this game.  I want some Magic clothing.  So, even though it's all really intended for people a generation (or more) younger than I am, no
one will see me while I am building decks.  I will declare my love for Green decks with a Green Mana Symbol t-shirt.  I will warn everyone to watch out for my Simic decks with the t-shirt from that Guild.  And I will allow myself an indulgence by staying warm in the cold months (and there are many cold months where I live!) wearing the Red Boros sweatshirt.

Well, the swag arrived this past weekend, and inserted among the shirts were two Magic: the Gathering 2013 boosters.  I opened them up (even before I opened the shirts) and a couple of the cards caught my eye, stirred my imagination, and made me want to build, build, Build!
Ready for Magic
Then I started realizing this is one of the last two weeks when I will be a weekday bachelor (hurray!) so I had better find a bachelor-esque way to spend my evenings.  What better way than will games?

So here it is:  Deck Building Week.  If you want to get out your measuring tape and saw, you go right ahead.

Me?  I'm going to bury myself in playing cards.  What fun!
