Movie Micro-Reviews: Edition 56

It’s Complicated

66

Fun comedy where actions do have consequences. I laughed hard a couple of times, and chuckled more.

Stargate

81

Fun sci-fi with a little sci, and a lot of fi. What if aliens really did build the pyramids – what might that mean? Also, the impetus for one of the best TV series ever.

Jane Austen Book Club (The)

74

Though I suspect I would have liked it even more if I had read Austen’s novels, I think I got the point – and the script was well written and acted. Good job.

American History X

85

Incredibly intense. Almost hard to watch, but excellent. Edward Norton is so convincing and articulate in his Neo-Nazi flashbacks. Language and violence all crucial to the story, and not glamorized.

Book of Eli (The)

91

This is what a post-apocalyptic sci-fi story should be like! OK, there are a couple of kinds of endings such a story can have, and they chose one which was very satisfying. Denzel Washington was exceptional. Gary Oldman was frightening. Don’t let someone spoil this movie for you. See it for yourself – if you can handle the violence.

P.S. Mila Kunis is not “Jackie” – and by her last scene could be a young Angelina Jolie.
