The Stand | 91 | Stephen King's masterpiece. Some stories are too long for a single movie; a mini-series allowed each act the time it needed. Gary Sinise is wonderful. Rob Lowe was excellent as deaf/mute Nick. Bill Fagerbakke was perfect as Tom Cullen. Jamey Sheridan still scares me every time I see him because of his role in this apocalyptic tale. |
Precious | 86 | Some movies are painful to watch, not because they are bad, but because they tell a painful story so well. Excellent, but I doubt I could stand to see this again. Raw. |
Princess and the Frog (The) | 78 | Very enjoyable. The |
This Is It | 85 | Amazing view behind the scenes of the preparation of a huge show. Clearly depicted Michael Jackson’s creativity and professionalism. It’s a shame the “This Is It” tour never got to happen. |
The Ideas, Opinions and Musings of Steven T Will. My most frequent topics are movies, games and learning. Oh, and I like to share photos. But since I try to post most weekdays when I'm not on vacation, I delve into other things too: religion, words, news items, quotes. And then, on occasion, I post snippets and wisps. Welcome, and enjoy!

Movie Micro-Reviews: Edition 49
Short list today. One I watch over and over (The Stand), one I'm glad I saw, but will never watch again (Precious) and two I wouldn't have seen if not for recommendations. Thank goodness for recommendations!

Okay, call me a name dropper, but I was seated in close proximity to Mick Garris at the 2008 Bram Stoker Awards. Mick accepted Stephen King's Stokers for Duma Key and the short fiction collection that year. After the banquet, I had the opportunity to gush, fanboy like, to Mick concerning his directing of the Stand. He was a very nice and approachable fellow.
