Movie Micro-Reviews: Edition 17

Yet another installment, on Sarah's birthday (Happy 21st, sweetie!)

With luck, by the time I post the next set of these, I'll have been able to see "The Incredible Hulk."

Though Sherry is tired of it, I am happy to be able to see movie versions of comic books. Finally the technology exists to do the effects properly and get the right moods set. And, at the same time, we have filmmakers who see the underlying value of the stories. Anyway, here's today's set of micro-reviews.

By the way, if anyone ever wants to disagree with me on them, I'd be happy to have a conversation, in the "comments" or via e-mail.

Romancing the Stone

71

Shows its age a bit, but still a fun story with real heroes and fun comic relief.

Sentinel (The)

64

Good suspense and mystery. View once for a fun time.

Terminator (The)

83

Even 24 years later, this is a good science fiction story. Hollywood almost seems unwilling to allow senseless death in mainstream movies. Well, I guess at the time, no one knew Arnold would become the Governator, or that a trilogy would result.

Day After Tomorrow (The)

76

We’ve seen this a lot; amazing that I haven’t reviewed it before. The science may be suspect, but the visuals are fun, and the message is clear. Like most Hollywood disaster movies, the audience is left happier than we have a right to be, but it’s a good ride.
